HEPA Filters

MEGAcel® I

The MEGAcel® I utilizes ePTFE media to achieve a much smaller pore size (than traditional fiberglass) with uniform fiber distribution. It is designed to achieve energy savings through a reduction in fan energy consumption by stabilizing airflow through the use of ePTFE media and tapered aluminum separators.

AstroCel® I

AstroCel® I HEPA filters are used in areas which require the very highest levels of contamination control. They have broad application in hospitals, pharmaceutical processing, laboratories and semiconductor manufacturing facilities.

The filter consists of water-proofed, fire-retardant fiberglass media formed into a series of pleats. Corrugated sheets of aluminum separate the pleats to permit maximum usage at minimum resistance. The media is enclosed in and foam bonded to a filter frame made of 3/4″ fire retardant particle board, aluminum or galvanized steel. Gasketing is available on the upstream, downstream or both faces.

AstroCel® II

AstroCel® II Series is designed to meet the demanding airflow and efficiency requirements of the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotech, food processing, and other industries in which airborne contaminants must be carefully controlled.

With a 2” to 3″ deep media pack, the AstroCel® II’s mini-pleat design reduces resistance and provides the lowest possible pressure drop. Ribbons of media maintain pleat separation within the pack, while allowing a more compact filter depth than corrugated separators. The media pack is bonded to the sides of the extruded aluminum frame with urethane adhesive, forming an airtight seal. AstroCel® II microglass media is water-resistant and fire-retardant.

AstroCel® II filters are scan tested at 99.99% efficiency with a NON-DOP aerosol to insure the filter is free from pin hole leaks. Also available is an ULPA (Ultra Low Penetration Air) model, which is additionally laser tested to 99.9995% at 0.12μm.

TM-2™ Ceiling Filter Modules

TM-2™modules come in a variety of sizes, offering flexibility for any installation. All standard modules come with a 10″ or 12″ diameter inlet, adjustable distribution plate, and an integral expanded metal grille. A contractor grade is available with the same options. Each unit is entirely factory-sealed, with all metal to metal joints bonded to prevent leakage.

The AAF TM-2™ series delivers peak filtration in cleanrooms from ISO Class 8 to ISO Class 4. The modules utilize our AstroCel II Mini-pleat Filter Pack which provides 99.99% (HEPA) minimum efficiency on 0.3 μm. A laser-tested ULPA filter providing 99.9995% efficiency at 0.12μm is also available.

The low profile housing and light weight of the TM-2™ modules make for easy installation. The modules are typically installed in a 1-1⁄2″ or 2″ T-bar ceiling grid, or 2″ wide gel or gasket seal, heavy duty ceiling grids, suspended from the building structure. Housings with four suspension points for attachment of hangers are standard for gasket seal applications.

TM-4™ Ceiling Filter Modules

The AAF TM-4™ series was developed to meet industry requirements for large cleanrooms with individually ducted modules. The TM-4™ features our AstroCel® II Mini-pleat Filter Pack, which provides HEPA efficiency, a high ratio of media surface to pack depth, and reduced operating pressure drop. The modules are available with custom efficiencies ranging up to 99.99995% on .10 μm to .20 μm size particles, making it ideal for ISO Class 3 Waferfabs.

PharmaGel™ Gel Ceiling Modules

The AAF PharmaGel™ is a high performance HEPA module with simplified filter cartridge maintenance. Equipped with four support retainers, cartridges can be tested and replaced without disturbing the module housing. A gel sealant pocket ensures airtight integrity at the filter to module seal.

PharmaGel™ housing is constructed of sturdy, welded aluminum with a flush-mounted, stainless steel grill. The airtight housing includes an integral aluminum flange on the downstream side, for use with a conventional T-bar grid system. The round top inlet is designed with a butterfly damper conveniently operated from the downstream side using a rotary-type mechanism. A perforated diffuser plate beneath the damper promotes even distribution of air across the filter.

The PharmaGel™ includes an AAF AstroCel® II LPD 2-7⁄ 8″ HEPA filter, featuring a 2″ deep pack and mini-pleat design that provides both low pressure drop and optimum air cleaning efficiency. PharmaGel modules can be used for vertical or horizontal airflow applications, and are available with numerous options for your specific application.

FM2-LE™ Fan Filter Modules

The FM2-LE™ is a self-contained fan/filter module for cleanroom applications. It can be used to upgrade existing cleanrooms or to convert existing space into a cleanroom without additional ductwork or air handling equipment. The modules can be used in most conventional ceiling grids or may be suspended independently by four eyebolt support points.

Air circulation is maintained by using a lightweight, backward curved impeller powered by a 115V, 60Hz motor. The speed of the impeller can be adjusted by the solid-state speed control mounted on top of the housing. The housing is made from 16-gauge aluminum, with an expanded metal faceguard on the downstream side. Attached to the module by spring latches, AAF’s AstroCel II HEPA filter provides 99.99% efficiency on 0.3 μm particles. The prefilter to the module is AAF’s 1” PerfectPleat M8.

FM2-LE™ modules are available in 2′ x 2′, 2′ x 3′, and 2′ x 4′ sizes with a variety of options.

AstroSeal® Type S

Designed to meet the stringent requirements of HEPA filter applications, AstroSeal® Type S housings are engineered to perform reliably even in the toughest environments. The innovative design ensures uniform and constant pressure against the sealing surface of the HEPA filter.

AstroSeal® Type S is built with industrial welded construction for reliable performance up to 10″ positive or negative pressure (optional construction up to 20″ w.g.). Standard 2″ deep access doors have internal welded reinforcement and a precise pin type hinge. A 1-1/2″ wide neoprene rubber gasket surface forms the proper seal with “finger pressure” locking knobs.

The Type S is available in two models: gasket seal housings with a rugged, crank lock mechanism, and a gel seal model with a knife edge sealing surface. AstroSeal® Type S housings are available with a 2″ or 4″ wide prefilter track. Blank off panels are provided to prevent prefilter bypass.

Options include double door accessibility, insulation, pressure testing, static taps, resistance gauge, and test port.

AstroFrame™

AstroFrame™ holding frame is specifically designed for gel or gasket seal AstroCel® I HEPA filters. Made with 14-gauge all welded construction (galvanized steel or 304 stainless steel), AstroFrames™ are made to deliver maximum enclosure integrity. Each frame is fitted with four removable, pressure bolt latches to produce sealing pressure. A flat, wide surface sealing flange is provided for gasket seal filters and a knife edge flange for gel seal filters. Self-contained prefilters are also available and are held in a separate frame attached to the AstroFrame™ to permit replacement without disturbing the AstroCel® filter. AstroFrame holding frames are factory drilled for convenient field assembly. They are 13-1⁄2″ in depth without a prefilter, 15-1⁄8″ in depth with a prefilter.

Welded Bevel Seal Frame

The Bevel Seal frame is a factory welded, extruded aluminum frame developed specifically for HEPA filter installations. For effective sealing integrity, the patented frame features a two level sealing surface connected by a bevel. This causes the filter gasket to be compressed in two stages as clamping pressure is applied.

AAF’s calibrated spring-loaded clamps maintain up to 100 pounds pressure against the filter at each clamping point. Four clamps are used per filter to assure uniform pressure against the gasket. Single clamps are used around the perimeter of the frame bank, and double clamps are used along main runners.

Welded Bevel Seal Frames support many filters and accessories, and are lightweight and easy to install in any combination. The channel edge extrusion at the perimeter of each frame is compatible for interfacing with walls, floors, ductwork and other frames.

Standard Bevel Seal frames accommodate 24″ x 24″ gasketed HEPA filters in three thicknesses — 2-3/4″, 5-7/8″ and 11-1/2″, with frames available for special size filters. The frames are designed to permit installation of adjacent filters at 3/4″ intervals. This design feature maximizes the number of filters that can be installed in a given space and reduces resistance due to frame extrusions.
